'44 Caddytm Information

The Digitrax DS44tm is a no frills stationary decoder for controlling slow-motion switch machines like the Circuitron Tortoisetm machine. It is easy to
program and it runs on DCC track power so it needs no additional wiring to a
secondary power source. It works with any manufacturer's throttle or device
that can send switch commands. The
Digitrax DS44
instruction manual
provides more information.
The DS44 provides very good value in a very small package.
However, it is this small package that can be awkward to integrate into the
layout. The small, delicate, wires need to be securely connected to the
turnout motors and the DCC power supply. Programming the DS44 involves
temporarily connecting a wire on the harness to one of the two DCC inputs
and then disconnecting it after programming is completed.
The '44 Caddy provides an economical solution to these issues. The top
quality circuit board provides the mounting holes to secure the decoder to
layout control panels, the screw terminal blocks provide a quick, simple,
and secure way to connect all the wires needed by the DS44, and the
programming jumper makes it quick and easy to change the DS44 operation
modes. In addition, the '44 Caddy's resettable fuse protects the decoder
against wiring faults that might result in a current overload that could
destroy the DS44. The '44 Caddy Installation Instructions provide
more details.
